Sr. Director of Programmatic Strategy & Optimization – San Francisco, CA

We are seeking an experienced Sr. Director of Programmatic Strategy & Optimization responsible for managing a team of programmatic strategists and optimization managers. The team is responsible for campaign launch, delivery, and optimization using the company’s proprietary programmatic content marketing platform. He or she should be the company expert in all ad-tech related technical issues and be able to investigate and resolve technical problems working with our engineering team. The candidate will analyze data and find opportunities to improve our delivery and optimization algorithms by providing requirements to our product and engineering teams. The candidate should be able to work closely with sales and clients to support them by recommending programmatic strategies to meet clients’ demands and ensure accurate and timely campaign launches, and delivery of campaigns while hitting internal margin goals. The ideal candidate is a player/coach that is comfortable in a highly-dynamic fast-paced start-up environment. The ideal candidate has experience with execution and optimization of programmatic advertising campaigns through DSPs and/or social ad platforms. This position will report into the President & Co-Founder of the company.


  • Day to day team management including growth and development of direct reports
  • Own and continuously refine campaign set-up process to ensure campaigns are setup with the right strategies to meet client goals on time and bug free
  • Own the delivery and optimization of campaigns to meet and exceed campaign performance and margin goals
  • Work with Engineering and Product to improve delivery and optimization algos, troubleshoot bugs and enhance the platform
  • Be the go-to person for all campaign related technical issues – own it – and work cross functionally with sales and engineering to resolve issues
  • Support Sales responding to RFPs and client requests and come up with strategic recommendations to clients’ requests
  • Maintain vendor relationships with our supply partners and field and coordinate resolution of partner issues
  • Communicate technical issues (both verbal and written) in a manner that is easy for a non-technical audience to understand
  • Understand and stay abreast of leading ad technology, i.e. DSP, DMP to identify opportunities and challenges

  • 5+ years’ experience in ad operations and/or programmatic buying
  • 5+ years’ experience supporting sales teams
  • Basic HTML, Javascript understanding
  • Experience working with marketers, agencies, and different platforms (i.e. DSPs, DMPs, 3rd party tags (DCM, Sizmek), ad servers, ad exchanges, ad verification (Moat, IAS, Double Verify), 1st and 3rd party targeting, re-targeting pixels, etc)
